Biography: Sam Prest

 

Sam Prest began his performing arts career at the age of 12, using a combination of dance, robotics, mime, acrobatics, illusion and mask in highly original street theatre performances.

 

His creative passions have taken him in two concurrent directions; the continued evolution of his performance career, and his emergence as a designer and producer of specialised costumes, props, displays and exhibitions from major arts clients through to trade shows and expos.

 

Highlights of his career to date include:

 

Performance

  • Winner, South Australian Young Achiever of the Year (Arts Category) 1994
  • National Finalist, Australian Young Achiever of the Year 1994
  • South Australian representative artist, Okayama exchange project (Japan)
  • Official entertainer representing the Lord Mayor for Sister City Delegations, Christchurch (New Zealand), Himeji (Japan), Okoyama (Japan)
  • Subsequent tours of Japan and New Zealand for national radio network 'More FM'
  • Touring artist for South Australian Tourism Commission delegation to Jakarta, Indonesia
  • Guest performer with the Olympic Russian Gymnastic Team
  • Guest tutor (breakdance), Australian Dance Theatre Company (ADT)
  • Performer for the Australian tour of former USA President Bill Clinton
  • Television guest appearances including Channel 9's 'Hey, Hey, it's Saturday', 'Good Morning Australia', 'Adelaide Today' and 'AM Adelaide'
  • Television presenter / performer roles including ABC children's television series 'Finders Keepers' and 'Couch Potato'
  • Performer for the touring exhibition of $6 million Diamond International Awards Collection from Paris
  • Participant, 'The Cabinet' project with Leigh Warren and Dancers
  • Regular performances for major corporate clients including Jordon Formula One, Shell, Yves Saint Laurent,  Skycity and Phillip Morris

 

Theatrical Construction

  • Production of specialised costume pieces for the State Opera of South Australia's international production of Wagner's 'Ring Cycle'
  • Production of armour for State Opera of South Australia's production of 'Parsifal'
  • Design and construction of trade show displays for Toyota, Clipsal, Bridgestone, shell, St John Ambulance, South Australian Tourism Commission
  • Creation of brand promotional items for Phillip Morris, Imperial Tobacco, Q Bar
  • Design and construction of displays and props for the Land Management Corporation for the promotion of the $1.2 billion Port Adelaide Waterfront Redevelopment and the internationally awarded Mawson Lakes residential development

 

the creative development of a project that utilises both his performance and production skills. He also seeks to further his performing arts practice through collaborative projects with other artists.
